All 20K of Them!

Dancing on graves is typically frowned upon, but in the case of Washington Square Park - if you’ve been there, that’s exactly what you’re doing. The area that we know as Washington Square Park, previously farmland, had been purchased for what would have become a pauper’s cemetery. In the late 1700’s there was a massive outbreak of Yellow Fever, and because of a huge influx of bodies piling up due to Yellow Fever, the city’s plans quickly turned to a quarantined burial ground. There is an estimated 20,000 bodies buried beneath the famed fountain and it’s grounds.
