Most of us probably haven't seen this little trick first hand, but its common in most cities when temperatures drop. I'm sure there's a way to improve upon this as an infrastructure flaw, but until then, just know that the MTA literally lights the tracks on fire to thaw them or prevent them from freezing. Like... what?! So if you're ever sitting idly on a train and its cold AF outside, just remember that the tracks in front of you just may be ablaze!
