Wildwood Daze: Catching A Late Lunch at Urie's in Wildwood

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

A nighttime view: This facade has greeted generations of Wildwood vacationers. Urie's opened back in1956 when the nation "liked Ike" and "loved Lucy".

It's sweltering outside so you're hunkering down in the AC chill but you're hungry and the tofu in the fridge just isn't cutting it. So, what to do? Well, me? I went on Facebook and checked a few different restaurant's pages to see who had lunch deals. Urie's page caught my attention because they offer a 1pm-3pm Happy Hour that I could still get to and I saw photos of a really delicious looking crab cake sandwich as well as this decadent yet healthy salad with pineapple, strawberry, mandarin oranges...perfect for a crazy hot firecracker of a July day.

So I hopped on the bike and headed for Urie's. It was 2:40pm so I had about 20 minutes to make it by 3pm. I zipped from Wildwood Crest and arrived with 10 minutes to spare.

I made it in time for Happy Hour but it was only for people who sat at the bar. I chose a table so I couldn't play in the Happy Hour reindeer games but that was ok because I wanted a spot overlooking the water to watch the boats cruising into the docks near Mud Island and Sunset Lake.

Lunch was just as good as it looked.

The salad had, as I mentioned, a great array of tastes courtesy of the tart strawberries, sweet mandarins, buttery Avocado, tangy pineapple and savory slightly salty feta cheese. It was tasty, hydrating, and filling.

The dining deck and outside bar.

The dinner crowd was already in queue as I departed after lunch.

A sneak peek at that night's dinner specials.

It was a windy day by the bay.

Sitting on the deck at Urie's you get see a variety of watercraft passing by.

A bountiful array of colors and flavors greeting me on the plate in front of me.

King crab legs are always a popular choice.

While you're waiting for a table you can treat yourself or the family to a game of skee-ball in the Urie's arcade room.

Crabs in all shapes and sizes are always on the menu at Urie's.

Mom always said leave a clean plate.
