A sweeping new free outdoor art installation, Path of Liberty: That Which Unites US, has just opened near the East River, transforming more than six acres along First Avenue from East 38th to 41st Street into a journey through American history and ideals. If you are jumping on or off the NY Waterway boat at the Terminal East Side and or the Seastreak Ferry at 35th Street and the East River, plan to spend an hour or so before traveling to Brooklyn, Queens or New Jersey.

An Immersive Walk Through American Stories

Created by the Soloviev Foundation, Path of Liberty features 41 monumental screens and installations that showcase the voices and images of 50 Americans from all walks of life that include:

  • A retired NYFD Lieutenant from New York City who discusses the camaraderie of first responders, the challenges faced during major city crises and the enduring spirit of New Yorkers.

  • A farmer from the rural South who talks about the importance of community, stewardship of the land and how farming traditions connect generations and sustain local economies.

  • A National Park Ranger from the West who explores the responsibility of preserving natural heritage for future generations and the role of public lands in American identity.

  • An artists from LA who reflects on using creativity to express freedom, address social issues and inspire dialogue across diverse communities.

  • A New Orleans cher who celebrates culinary traditions as a reflection of cultural diversity, sharing stories of resilience and unity through foo

The installation’s design frames these narratives with a dramatic view of Manhattan's East Side skyline to the west and the East River to the east.

An Site for Art

This installation follows last year’s acclaimed Field of Light exhibit at Freedom Plaza, continuing the Soloviev Foundation’s commitment to bringing large-scale, thought-provoking art to Midtown East.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Daniella Vale and featuring a short film by Donna Lawrence Productions, Path of Liberty is a provocative evening adventure. The project also honors the voices of New York’s youth, including winners of the “Future Generations Essay Contest." As the city looks toward America’s 250th birthday, Path of Liberty stands as a timely reminder of the values that unite -- and occasionally divide -- us all.
