A Local Mom’s POV on Family Fun in ACNJ: Island Water Park, Lucky Snake Arcade, and The Beautiful Atlantic City Boardwalk

Atlantic City doesn’t always get the love it deserves when it comes to being a family-friendly destination. As a local mom of two now-teenagers, I’ve spent the last sixteen years enjoying the attractions that Atlantic City has to offer, from the free beaches during the day to boardwalk jazz concerts at night. My family and I have spent every summer with our toes in the sand and memories being made up and down the boardwalk.
This year, with two bored teenagers at home all summer, we’ve been checking off some local bucket list items, including a trip to Island Water Park at Showboat Hotel and Resort, which we were saving for a rainy day. When the air quality in New Jersey became an issue recently and canceled our outside “Yes Day” plans, our friends at Showboat saved the day with water slides, pizza, games, and ice cream.
We kicked off the day with a trip around the lazy river and waterslides at Island Water Park. My kids, who love to create their own edits these days, were eager to create a sibling rivalry point-of-view of our day. One of the following videos was made by a 16-year-old girl, and the other by an 11-year-old boy.

After we had our fill of slides and slices, we were able to easily access changing rooms so we could dry off before we headed to Lucky Snake Arcade. There, the friendly sibling rivalry continued in the way that allows a mom to sit back in gratitude that they’re playing together at all.
Once we had our fun in the arcade, we topped off the day with a short stroll on our backyard boardwalk where I noticed Showboat also has dinosaurs now!
We took our stroll back to the car in the conveniently located parking lot and drove home thankful for a perfect day of togetherness. Summer always reminded me just how thankful I am to call Atlantic City home - a place that is rich in history, full of quirkiness and creativity, and never short on entertainment for shore lovers young and old.
