Sushi Stars Cherry Hill Review

If you love sushi and the words “all you can eat” immediately get your attention, there’s a spot in Cherry Hill, New Jersey that should probably be on your radar.

We recently visited Sushi Stars, formerly known as Sushi Boss, to try its all-you-can-eat sushi experience. Unlike many AYCE restaurants where you grab food that has been sitting on a buffet, Sushi Stars takes a completely different approach: you order what you want from the menu and everything is prepared fresh for you.

That difference ended up being one of our favorite parts of the entire meal.

The restaurant is located in the Hillview Shopping Center on Route 38, near the Cherry Hill Mall. Sushi Boss officially became Sushi Stars in 2026, but the restaurant says the food, ownership and overall dining experience remain the same.

The $27.99 All-You-Can-Eat Deal

We went specifically to try the $27.99 all-you-can-eat option, and for the amount of food and variety available, we thought it was a very good value. There is also discounted pricing available for children, making this an option worth considering for families. Because children's pricing and age brackets can change, we recommend checking the current menu or asking the restaurant when you arrive.

What makes the deal especially interesting is that it isn't limited to a handful of basic sushi rolls.

You can continually order from a large selection that includes sushi, rolls, appetizers, soups, salads, sides and other Japanese dishes. There are also hibachi-style selections available. Some premium hibachi choices, including certain steak options, may carry an additional charge, so keep an eye on the menu when ordering.

This Isn't Your Typical All-You-Can-Eat Buffet

We've visited plenty of all-you-can-eat restaurants over the years, and one of the biggest differences at Sushi Stars is that the food isn't sitting out waiting for you. There are no trays of sushi sitting under lights while dozens of people walk past them. Instead, you sit down, choose what you want, place your order and the kitchen prepares it.

Then you do it again. And again. And, in our case, again. That made the entire experience feel much closer to eating at a traditional sushi restaurant than eating at a buffet. Everything kept arriving at the table fresh and made to order.

The Food Just Kept Coming

Our waitress was absolutely on point throughout the meal. As soon as we were getting close to finishing one round, she was back at the table asking what we wanted next. There was very little downtime. It honestly felt like we were eating nonstop. We'd finish one plate, order another combination of sushi, appetizers or sides, and before long another fresh round would arrive at the table. That's exactly how an all-you-can-eat experience should work.

Instead of spending half your meal waiting for someone to come back or wondering when you can order again, the service kept everything moving.

Don't Skip the Appetizers and Sides

Even if sushi is the main reason you're visiting, one of the best things about the AYCE menu is being able to experiment.

You aren't committing to a full-size entrée every time you want to try something.

Order a few appetizers. Try a side dish. Grab some sushi. Then order another round.

It's a great way to sample several different parts of the menu without having to choose just one or two items for your entire dinner. For someone visiting with a group or family, that variety is a major plus because everyone can continue choosing different things throughout the meal.

The Sleeper Pick: Save Room for Dessert

Here's the part of the meal we weren't expecting. The desserts might have been the sleeper pick of the entire experience.

After what felt like an endless parade of sushi and appetizers, we decided to try a couple of desserts.

First was the chocolate-covered spumoni. That alone would have been a great finish.

Then we tried the lemon sorbet served inside an actual lemon. That was the perfect way to end the meal.

After eating sushi, appetizers and several heavier dishes, the cold citrus flavor of the lemon sorbet was light and refreshing.

We didn't walk into an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant expecting dessert to be one of the things we'd remember most, but it absolutely was.

Pro tip: save some room at the end.

Final Verdict

For $27.99, we thought Sushi Stars offered a really solid all-you-can-eat experience.

The biggest selling point isn't simply that you can eat as much as you want. It's how the food is served. Everything being made to order gives Sushi Stars a major advantage over the traditional buffet-style experience. The sushi was fresh, presentation was impressive, there were plenty of appetizers and side dishes to explore, and our server kept the food coming throughout the meal.

Add in the unexpectedly good dessert selection and we left feeling like we got our money's worth.

If you're looking for all-you-can-eat sushi in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Sushi Stars is definitely worth putting on your list.
