City Pulse Food Review: BryMax Brothers Visit Mangia Pizza in Delran, NJ
A great tomato pie, an enormous Cooper cheesesteak, and a garlic knot sandwich I’ve thought about all week. The BryMax Brothers and I recently visited Mangia Trattoria Pizzeria in Delran, New Jersey. We ordered enough to get a good feel for the place and enough to bring food home. If you’re looking for a South Jersey pizza spot that offers more than a standard slice and sandwich, Mangia is worth checking out.
Trenton Tomato Pie: It’s All About the Sauce
We started with Mangia’s Trenton tomato pie, and the sauce was phenomenal. That was the first thing I noticed and the part I kept coming back to with every bite. According to Mangia’s menu, the pie comes with plum tomatoes, basil, and olive oil over light mozzarella, which lets the tomato flavor take the lead. It’s listed at $16.99 for a medium or $17.99 for a large. If you’re ordering several things for the table, this is a great pie to share so everyone gets a taste.
Big Daddy OG Cooper Cheesesteak: Bring an Appetite
The Big Daddy OG Cooper lives up to its name. It came on a special roll with Cooper cheese, and my kids and wife loved it. What impressed me was that, despite its size, it wasn’t greasy, it was just a really satisfying cheesesteak. We couldn’t finish the whole thing and had to take some home, which made the $19.99 menu price feel like a solid value for our family.
Pro tip: If you’re also getting pizza or a garlic knot sandwich, plan to split this one or save part of it for later. Mangia’s online menu also lists a Big Daddy Cooper version with peppers, mushrooms, and fried onions for $22.99.
Garlic Knot Sandwiches: My Reason to Go Back
My favorite item of the visit was the shrimp vodka garlic knot sandwich. Taking a garlic knot and turning it into a full sandwich is already a great idea; adding shrimp and vodka sauce made this the order I haven’t stopped thinking about. I’ve seriously considered going back all week just to get another one. The online menu lists the shrimp vodka and shrimp parm garlic knot sandwiches at $15.99 each, with chicken parm and chicken Caesar versions at $13.49 each.
Pro tip: If it’s your first visit and you can only pick one sandwich, my vote is the Chciken Parm Vodka.
Dessert: Save a Little Room
Dessert deserves a mention even after an order this big. Mangia has a substantial dessert selection, and the fresh gelato imported from Italy is a fun bonus to find at a neighborhood pizzeria. The online dessert menu also lists cannoli at $4.99, tiramisu at $7.99, and several gelato pint flavors at $9.99; availability can vary.
Before You Go: Seating, Specials, and Rewards
Mangia has dine-in seating, limited outdoor seating, and plenty of parking. Its website also offers online ordering and lists catering if you’re feeding a larger group. On its weekly specials page, Mangia advertises two medium cheese pizzas, 24 wings, and a two-liter soda for $38.99, plus lunch offers including a sandwich special at $10.99. The restaurant also has a loyalty program that advertises $10 off after 150 points. Check the specials and ordering pages before visiting, since prices and offers can change.
For us, the Trenton tomato pie delivered on sauce, the Big Daddy OG Cooper was a hit with the family, and the shrimp vodka garlic knot sandwich was the clear reason I want to return. I’d definitely recommend Mangia, especially if you’re hungry enough to try more than one of its specialties.
