Life is a song; That’s a truth that musical artist Tatyana Kalko lives by and also the name of her next performance in Northeast Philadelphia. And everyone is invited. Having gone virtual during the pandemic, this Belarus native (...then New Yorker and now recent Philadelphian) is finally back in-person, at a little gem in this part of Philly: the Smoke and Mirrors Magic Theater at 2840 Pine Road in Huntingdon Valley. On November 14 at 3pm, Kalko will share the stage with fellow artist Vlada Bronfman, to dig into her roots, and present an absolutely real, heart-and-soul musical offering. Her style of storytelling and uplifting old world melodies has this singer-
songwriter performing everything from acoustic folk to jazz standards to French chanson and Russian and Yiddish classics.
Impressively, throughout the pandemic, Kalko has been staying active with musical workshops and healing, working on new music videos and participating in various performance opportunities. This latest show is presented by Michael Zorich and the Multicultural Arts Exchange, a great platform providing art here in the Northeast region. A classically trained singer and self-taught guitarist and piano player, Kalko’s songs have been enjoyed in many a theater and events, and were even featured on the CW show ‘Riverdale’. So what’s important to her? “With my music, I always aim to communicate an honest experience of life, a love of G-d and truth, and help myself and anyone listening heal and accept themselves” says the modest but talented artist. A noble pursuit and certainly enjoyable for us lucky audiences. See her this Sunday and visit https://tatyanakalko.bandcamp.com/ for more.
