The HEROtini Mocktail Challenge concluded on a high note October 30th at Harbor Pines Golf Club, with Tropicana Atlantic City and Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall emerging as the big winners in a spirited competition dedicated to promoting safe, designated driving.
The summer-long contest sought the most popular non-alcoholic mocktails among local casinos, bars, and taverns, raising awareness and funds to prevent drunk driving through the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign. Collectively, the challenge raised an impressive $48,000 to support this vital cause.
TOP HONORS:
Tropicana Atlantic City earned the prestigious Chairman’s Award, receiving a total gift of $10,247 as the leading casino participant. Their success stemmed from a thoughtful summer promotion encouraging guests to dedicate a portion of their winnings to the cause by ordering the casino’s signature “Ginger Spice” mocktail.
Meanwhile, Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall claimed first place among the 24 bar and tavern entrants, contributing $6,548 to the campaign. The establishment also won the Judge’s Choice for Best Tasting Mocktail, while Shays Restaurant and Dock’s Oyster House placed second and third respectively. In the People’s Choice category, Shays took the top honor, followed by Josie Kelly’s Public House and Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall.
Community Support and Impact
The New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, alongside various area businesses, lent their support to the challenge held between July and October. The event’s success further highlighted the community’s commitment to combating drunk driving through creative and engaging means.
Joseph Giunta, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Tropicana Atlantic City, expressed pride in the casino’s involvement: “We are excited to receive this award as recognition of the Tropicana’s commitment to the HERO Campaign and its life-saving mission.”
Sal Spena, general manager and partner of Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall, echoed the sentiment: “We and our Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall team are thrilled to have won top bar and tavern honors in the HEROtini contest. It’s all for a cause we support and believe in.”
Celebrating Winners
Both Tropicana and Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall were honored with large martini-glass-shaped HEROtini trophies and awarded trips to future Phillies games in a private suite courtesy of ARAMARK food service.
The HERO Campaign continues to amplify its message with highway billboards and more than 40 police patrol cars wrapped with its blue and yellow logos bearing the call to action: “Be a HERO. Be a Designated Driver.” Over 100,000 motorists have pledged online to serve as designated drivers for their friends and family.
The HEROtini Mocktail Challenge stands as a shining example of how community businesses, patrons, and organizations can come together in fun and impactful ways to promote safer roads for all.
